Active urge for BSF

Putting in place an effective mechanism of coordination among various units of force for effective and optimum utilization of paramilitary forces was the moot point of discussion today.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik chaired the weekly meeting on Law and Order Review here on 26 October.

Mr.Patnaik enquired about the effectiveness of Border Security Force (BSF), which have been deployed in Maoist Zones of Koraput and Malkangiri.

BSF is not conducting Night Operations and they are almost confined to their camps, revealed sources.

Bijaya Kumar Patnaik, Chief Secretary briefed the Media about the meeting.

He said that there is a need for proactive move by the Central Paramilitary Forces in general and particularly the BSF.

Issues relating to growing Maoist violence was discussed at length said the sources.

Upendra Nath Behera, Principal Secretary Home, Man Mohan Praharaj, DGP, Sanjeev Marik, Additional DGP in charge of Operations and others attended the meeting.

Aditya Prasad Padhi, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister was also in the meeting, said sources.

It was decided to press for two helicopters for anti-Maoist Operations with the Central Government, which has promised to provide the same to Odisha.

At least two choppers are needed, while one is to be deployed at Koraput and other one at Bhubaneswar.

While CRPF is active in dominating the area and conducting night operations, BSF is allegedly shying out of Operations.

While Special Operation Group (SOG) jawans are making deep penetration along with CRPF, BSF forces is allegedly playing safe.

CRPF jawans under direct supervision of M Nageswar Rao, IG Operations of CRPF is continuously on move in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and other parts of Central and Northern Odisha.
