Rajkhowa Says Release All Leaders Before Talks Begin
TIMES NEWS NETWORK

Guwahati: Ulfa chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa is all set to walk out of jail for peace talks after the state government on Thursday told a Tada court that it has no objection to his bail.
Rajkhowa, however, said Ulfa would not declare any ceasefire until the proposed talks found a solution to the Assam crisis. As he came out of the designated court,he said: There cannot be any ceasefire from our side.First, the talks should start.Second, until we find a solution, therell be no ceasefire.
The court will give its verdict on his bail plea on December 20.
There was a near stampede in the morning as media and public jostled for a glimpse of Rajkhowa when he came out of court under heavy security. There were no pro-Ulfa slogans though unlike the day Rajkhowa was produced in court for the first time after his arrest last December.
Rajkhowa, shouting at the top of his voice amidst the din, said: Let all leaders be released first and then we will sit for talks. He was accompanied by former deputy commanderin-chief Raju Baruah, who was recently released on bail.
Under pressure from jailed Ulfa leaders, the state has decided to facilitate their release in phases by not objecting to their bail petitions.Earlier,vice-chairman Pradip Gogoi,Raju Baruah, political adviser Bhimkanta Burhagohain, publicity secretary Mithinga Daimary and cultural secretary Pranati Deka were released.
Rajkhowa will convene a meeting of the outfits central executive committee to take a formal decision on holding talks as required by Ulfas constitution immediately after the last two remaining leaders, finance secretary Chitrabon Hazarika and foreign secretary Sasadhar Choudhury, are released. The duo will move court soon for bail.
Rajkhowas counsel,Bijon Mahajan, said his client had already obtained bail in four IPC cases. The verdict in the six Tada cases will be delivered on December 20.His final release from jail will depend on how soon his family submits the bail bonds in court, said Mahajan.
Both Rajkhowa and Raju Baruah were picked up from Bangladesh on December 3 last year and handed over to the Assam-Meghalaya Frontier BSF at Dawki checkpost in Meghalaya the next day and was taken into custody by Assam Police.
