BSF apprehends arms smuggler, seizes fake currency notes

Shillong, Sep 5 : Troops of the BSF apprehended one arms smuggler and one Bangladeshi national from two different places.

BSF sources here today said on a specific information its troops deployed in Golaghat district of Assam launched a special counter insurgency operation at Barpathar area and apprehended the arms dealer yesterday and recovered one 9mm pistol, one magazine and three live rounds of ammunition.

The arms smuggler has been identified as Nick Sumi, hailing from Dimapur in Nagaland, sources said.

Sources further said one Bangladesh national was also apprehended from Borsora in West Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya while he was trying to infiltrate from Bangladesh into Indian territory. He has been identified as Shambhu Devbarma of Srimangal, Maulavi Bazar.

Besides, troops of BSF seized 16 fake currency notes of Rs 500 denomination, 124 cattle, country made boats and other contraband items from Dhubri district of Assam and hilly areas of Meghalaya during the last one week. The estimated cost of the seized items was Rs 32,70,840, sources said.

The arrested people and the seized items have been handed over to authorities concerned, sources added.
