Ahead of assembly elections in Assam, the anti-talk faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) and the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) are desperately trying to spread instability in the state.
While the Paresh Barua-faction of the ULFA recently triggered a blast at the state Congress headquarters, the NDFB attacked a convoy of Border Security Force personnel in Kokrajhar, killing eight and injuring several others.
Earlier, Baruah's men had threatened to disrupt the assembly election process due on April 4 and 11.
Expressing strong disapproval of the blast, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi had said: "We have been getting threats from the ULFA, but we still say that it is a cowardly act and because of them the entire state has been pushed backward. It's time we stand against this force and fight it.
BSF Director General Raman Srivastava, who reviewed the situation with senior police officers of the state, told reporters that it was "tragic to lose so many people and counter-measures would definitely be taken".
"We have to see the proper action is taken and from Guwahati the police, SSP and BSF will be working out the strategy to take very strong action. We cannot accept this kind of casualty without hitting back. We'll definitely hit back in our own way, own time very strongly," he said.
Assam has been placed under high alert following the two incidents.
Assam will hold elections on April 4 and 11. In all, 23,813 polling booths have been set up for 18 million voters to exercise their franchise.
Additional forces will be deployed in sensitive areas while the security cover of poll candidates would be further reviewed. (ANI)
