Agartala: Security has been beefed up throughout Tripura in view of the civic body elections at Agartala Municipal Council (AMC) and 15 other Nagar Panchayats in the state scheduled to be held on December 11.

Director General of Police Selim Ali on Sunday said more than 45,000 security personnel including state police, paramilitary Tripura State Rifles (TSR) and CRPF have been deployed throughout the state.

The Border Security Force (BSF) was also alerted to keep vigil along the 856 k.m long Indo-Bangla border to prevent entry of untoward elements from across the border.

In view of information of movement of some insurgents in remote and hilly areas, patrolling of the forces has been intensified, Ali said adding 60 mobile teams of forces were kept ready to tackle any untoward situation.

He said, warrants have been issued against 244 anti-socials for making preventive arrests.

Out of 545 polling booths, 170 were identified as sensitive and adequate security arrangements have been arranged for those booths, Ali said.
