Jammu, Jan 29 (IANS) The Indian and Pakistani border guards manning the international border inJammu and Kashmir have 'forged better coordination' and that has resulted in the easing of tension on the frontier in the Jammu region, a Border Security Force (BSF) officer said Saturday.
Inspector General of BSF, Jammu Frontier, S. Chattopadhyaya told newsmen on the sidelines of a function at the BSF headquarters at Paloura on the outskirts of Jammu: 'The BSF and the Pakistani Rangers have increased interaction and this has helped ease tensions on the border.'
'The incidents of ceasefire violation and intrusion bids have also declined. While in the first six months, there were 37 such bids, in the past seven months (July 2010 to January 2011), there have been only three such incidents,' he claimed.
The BSF guards 198 km of the international border in the Jammu region of the state.
Chattopadhayaya said that the efforts were on to 'further reduce tensions on the borders.'
