Dhaka, Sept 21 (bdnews24.com) — The director general-level meeting of Bangladesh and Indian border forces will begin on Wednesday.
Border forces of the countries — Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) and Border Security Force (BSF) — will continue the meeting till Sep 27 at Peelkhana BDR headquarters, said a statement on Tuesday.
A 22-member BDR delegation, led by BDR director general Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, and another 20-member BSF delegation, led by BSF director general Shri Raman Srivastava, will attend.
The BDR delegation includes deputy BDR director general, director (operation & training) and concerned BDR sector commanders, BDR headquarters officials, land record and survey department official and Joint River Commission officials.
The BSF delegation includes senior BSF headquarters officials, frontier inspectors general, home and foreign ministry officials.
BSF director general Srivastava's wife will also accompany the BSF delegation.
Quite a number of issues will come up at the meeting to increase cooperation between two countries' border guards.
The border forces will try to reach a consensus over stoppage of border killings and injuries, illegal infiltration, narcotics smuggling, erection of any structure within 150 yards of the border and shelter of criminals.
The high level meeting will begin on Sept 23 at 10am although it was supposed to start a day before because the BSF delegation managed to reach Dhaka on Sept 22.
The conclusion of the conference will mark the signing of a Joint Record of Discussions on Sept 27.
