Assembly passing anti-Kashmir laws: Mirwaiz

From Greater Kashmir
Srinagar, Apr 29: Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Friday said that legislative assembly was passing anti-Kashmir laws ‘to strengthen the hands of India in Jammu and Kashmir.’
Addressing the Friday congregation at historic Jamia Masjid here, Mirwaiz said that state legislature was no different from the forces in oppressing and usurping the rights of Kashmiris.
“Army, BSF and CRPF oppress Kashmiris and in the same way assembly was endorsing the draconian Acts and passing legislations against the interests of Kashmiris,” he said.

Coming down heavily on the mainstream parties, Mirwaiz said these were dividing Kashmiris to tell the world that a limited population demands freedom.
“They want to divide us into Gujjar, Pahadi, Shia, Sunni and want to convey that others only want peace, progress and development. But we want to tell them that people of Kashmir, Chenab Valley, Rajouri, Poonch, Badherwah, Doda and Kishtwar are freedom loving,” he said, adding that these laws are aimed at changing the demography of the state.
Mirwaiz said that nobody can change the disputed nature of Kashmir according to the resolutions passed by the United Nations.
Mirwaiz further said that every country in the world, except India, accepts the disputed nature of Kashmir.
“The Kashmir issue is on top of the pending disputes of the world. Our efforts for pressing the resolution are on at internal and external front,” he said.
“We want to tell them that state assembly is not valid and elections cannot be alternate of right to self-determination as per these resolutions,” he said.
Asking masses to remain cautious of the moves of legislators, Mirwaiz said, “Hadn’t the people and leadership raised their voice against the move (Dogra certificate) of so-called elected representatives, the Government wouldn’t have revoked it,” he said.
Castigating mainstream politicians, Mirwaiz said they were befooling people during the elections to get votes.
“They go to the people by telling them that Kashmir dispute exists and they are only for Bijli, Sadak and Pani, but they even fail to provide these amenities. We should remain cautious of their moves as they are fulfilling the designs of India here,” he said.
Expressing grave concern over the human rights violations in the Valley, the pro-freedom leader said that arrests and the harassment of youth was continuing.
“Those who participated in the peaceful protests in 2008, 2009 and 2010 are being arrested. If they have to arrest people for staging protests against the brutality and tyranny of forces, then they should imprison entire nation as everybody was on the streets during these years,” he said.
Mirwaiz also condemned the assault and arrest of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik by police yesterday.
