FROM NEW KERALA
Jammu, May 26: In a bid to keep check on smuggling of arms and narcotics from across the fence, the Border Security Force may soon deploy a brigade of women troopers along Indo-Pak international border in Jammu region.
The women troopers are likely to join to guard the 198-km border stretch from Pathankot to Akhnoor, which despite being fenced, is prone to 'infiltration' and 'smuggling' of narcotics and arms.
"As the women too actively involves in smuggling, the deployment of women troopers along the international border will help in checking the menace," they added.
They further said that the deployment would also multiply security structure along the border.
Meanwhile, one of the senior officials had recently said that though there was no incident of infiltration reported for the past ten months along the IB, but still the security had been beefed up following inputs from the Union Home Ministry regarding rising infiltration attempts.
"Besides Army, the BSF is also deployed as the second line of defence in some parts along the Line of Control (LoC)," they said.
