New Delhi: At a time when the Indo-Pak border is facing tension, government has ratified an order that would change half of Border Security Force (BSF) battalion on the fronts almost every year. The move, force personnel say, will adversely impact their operational capability.
The order, passed last week,is the fallout of a proposal sent by senior officers of BSF itself, but has fallen foul with the personnel.
According to the order, half of a BSF battalion posted in a hard area will move out in a periodic manner to peace areas. Also, only men will move without any of their arms or other logistics being carried to the new posting as was the practice earlier when an entire unit would move with all its logistics. It is for the first time in the history of the force such an order has been passed. The intention, say sources,is to alleviate the stress of paramilitary personnel.
