BSF assure BDR to stop killings of Bangladeshi nationals

RANGPUR, Aug 9 (BSS): The Indian Border SecurityForce (BSF) at a coordination meeting today on Kurigram border assured Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) to stop killings of Bangladeshinationals, official sources said. 

The BSF gave the assurance at the meeting between BDR Rangpur Sector Commander Colonel Khairuzzaman and Deputy Inspector General of Koochbehar BSF Sector RS Vijay Raj at Bagbhander BDR outpost in Bhurungamari Upazila of Kurigram. 

The BSF assurance came after BDR raised the issues of killing Bangladeshinationals by BSF and the BDR side highly appreciated the BSF move to stop all sorts of killings along the common borders. 

In response to some points raised by the BSF, the BDR assured that increased motivational works would be conducted so that the people living along the common borders stop breaching the barbed-wire fences and illegal trespassing. 

Both the sides committed to ensuring peace along the borders and resolving all issues through discussions and extend cooperation for further strengthening border management. 

The BDR delegation included Second-in-Command of Rangpur Sector Lieutenant Colonel Mahfuz, Commanding Officer (CO) of Rangpur 34 Rifles Battalion Lieutenant Colonel Omar Sadi, CO of Kurigram 27 Rifles Battalion Lieutenant Colonel Abdur Razzaque, CO of Lalmonirhat 31 Rifles Battalion Lieutenant Colonel Aslam and Staff Officers. 

The BSF delegation included five Commandants Shyam Kapoor of 88 BSF Battalion, Rakesh Chauhan of 46 BSF Battalion, Anil Kumar Thakur of 127 BSF Battalion, Manjinder Singh of 181 BSF Battalion, VP Badola of 113 BSF Battalion and Staff Officers. 

The senior BDR and BSF officials exchanged views at the five and a half hours long meeting until 4:30pm and discussed various issues relating to improving overall border management. 

Both sides reiterated their commitments for increased cooperation between the two neighbouring and friendly border guards in curbing all sorts of cross border crimes, terrorist activities, trafficking of drugs, narcotic substances and women and children. 

"The meeting was held in a very cordial and friendly atmosphere where both sides agreed to take all necessary and decisive steps for ensuring peace along the common borders," Colonel Khairuzzaman told the news agency.
