Agartala, Sept 5:
The Tripura police has confirmed that the Bangladesh national, who was detained by the BSF on September 2, has close association with the Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HuJI), a Pakistan-based terrorist group having camps in Bangladesh.
Police officials here today said a joint team of Tripura police and Central agencies had been interrogating the terrorst, identified as Nayeem Ahmed Mamoon (22), resident of Kotalipara in Bangladesh, and he confessed to be closely associated with HuJI operatives.
According to report, Mamoon entered Agartala from West Bengal's Murshidabad district. The BSF had recovered forged a identity card, photograph, pass-book and train tickets from his possession. The arrest of Mamoon has alerted the security agencies because this was the second detention of ISI operative and HUJI activist in the recent past.
Earlier, officials of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and police apprehended ISI operative Manir Khan of Pakistan from Sonamura in July. Based on the inputs provided by him, police had also arrested five more associates of the ISI from Tripura and Assam.
Director General of Tripura Police Pranay Sahay indicated that the Bangladesh government was playing a proactive role following constant persuasion of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and as a result, Northeast insurgents had started shifting their bases towards Myanmar, but still ISI and HuJI were using Bangladesh as corridor to enter India.
