The XXXIV Inter-Frontier Football Tournament of the Border Security Force (BSF) will be held here from October 29.
The tournament will be held at Jawaharlal Nehru Football Stadium at Polo which will be organised by the Frontier headquarters, Shillong. Teams of different frontiers of BSF - from high reaches of J&K, far flung area of Rajasthan, Thar of Gujrat and from East and North East area - will participate in the event.
Meghalaya Director General of Police S B Kakati will declare the tournament open, while state Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Sports and Youth Affairs, Bindo M Lanong will be the chief guest on the final day.
Inter frontier football competition is an all India BSF tournament aimed at spotting and feeding new talent to the force in the field of football, a BSF statement said.
In the past, the frontier guards have won many laurels in the field of Football.
The BSF came into national arena of Football in 1969 when it won the Gold medal in All India Police Games for the first time under the able guidance of Late K F Rustamji, IP, the first Director General of BSF. The team won Durand Cup for seven times and remained runners-up for two times besides winning All India Police Games 22 times in BSF four decades old history.
The BSF has also contributed players like Bibas Saha and Jagmohan Singh to the Indian Football team.
