AMRITSAR: Peeved at defaming of names of their officials by some travel agents, the Border Security Force (BSF) has approached the district administration to identify and take action against travel agents or taxi or auto drivers, who demand money from visitors promising them a seat in the VVIP area for watching beating the retreat ceremony held at the Attari land border daily. A senior BSF official, who did not want to be named told TOI on Monday that there have been three incidents in the recent past wherein an auto driver, manager of Aman Umeed restaurant, Ashwini Kumar and a travel agent had allegedly taken money from the visitors promising them to get prime seats to watch the ceremony.
"These people claim that they have good connections with senior BSF officials and would get them good seats," he said.
The auto driver and manager of Aman-Umeed restaurant have been apprehended by the police.
Recently a foreign tourist had complained with a BSF officer about a travel agent who had taken money from him for getting him a seat with a better view.
