AMRITSAR: A 20-member team of Bangladesh Border Guards (BBG) officials arrived in Attari for a "capsule course" on beating the retreat ceremony after both the nations agreed on performing customary drill during the lowering of flags at dusk.
The drill will be performed on the lines of Attari (India) -- Wagah (Pakistan) drill at Petrapole (India) -- Benapole (Bangladesh) Integrated Check Post on India-Bangladesh border. The decision was made during a high-level meeting between BSF Director General (DG) Raman
Srivstava and his Bangladeshi counterpart DG of BGB Maj Gen Rafiqul Islam on March 12 -- the concluding day of the 33rd Border Coordination Conference. BSF Inspector General (Frontier) Hmmat Singh told TOI on Friday that BBG officials discussed the pattern of the daily drill performed in Attari. Top sources in BSF and BBG interacted with senior BSF officials and also met the jawans who perform the daily drill, to collect tips on carrying out a synchronized drill -- the date of which is yet to be announced.
"They wanted to know the sequence of the drill, number of jawans, their gestures, special uniform, setting of drill, etc," said a BSF official. He said that the BBG officials were also curious to know how BSF and Pakistan Rangers synchronize the drill and whether they rehearse or not. Sources said that since Bangladesh is a friend country, the evening drill may not have the usual element of belligerence seen at Attari. Meanwhile, sources said that DG level meeting of BSF with Pakistan Rangers would be held in the last week of May.
