SECURITY:A BSF man guarding the strong room at Government College of Engineering in Tirunelveli on Friday.
TIRUNELVELI: Following an appeal from AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa, 50 Border Security Force personnel have been roped in to provide security to the EVMs kept in the strong rooms at Government College of Engineering, Tirunelveli.
Though a three-tier security arrangement was put in place in the counting centres of Government College of Engineering, Tirunelveli, Sri Parasakthi College for Women, Courtallam, and Veerasamy Chettiar College of Engineering, Puliyangudi, in the district by the Tamil Nadu Police, Ms. Jayalalithaa made an appeal to the Election Commission that Central Security Force personnel should be deployed in the counting centres to guard the EVMs.Subsequently, 50 BSF personnel have been deployed in front of the strong rooms along with the Tamil Nadu Police at Government College of Engineering.
Similarly, 30 Central Force personnel have been put to service at Sri Parasakthi College for Women, and Veerasamy Chettiar College of Engineering, along with the Tamil Nadu Police.
“While the counting centre at Sri Parasakthi College for Women will have 15 personnel from Central Forces, a DSP, three inspectors and 18 sub-inspectors, similar force will be deployed in the counting centre at Veerasamy Chettiar College of Engineering also,” said a police officer.
