BSF realigns 'damaged' fence to counter infiltrators this winter

From NewKerala.Com
Jammu, Dec 3 : Sneaking into the Indian territory from across the border, this winter would not be a cakewalk for the infiltrators as Border Security Force (BSF) has strengthened the security structures and realigned the 'damaged' fence along Indo-Pak international border.

As winters are in offing, the BSF has geared up to counter any attempt of infiltration from across the border, well placed sources here said today.

''Some of the loopholes including 42-kms of damaged fence out of 192-kms stretch along international border, have been realigned following inputs of infiltrators waiting across to enter into Indian territory,'' official sources exclusively told UNI.

Sources said that the 42-kms of damaged fence at different locations have been completely realigned to counter infiltration attempts being made from other side of the border.

''Besides, the realignment of damaged fence, additional pickets have also been raised at shorter distances to closely monitor any suspicious movement along the border,'' sources added.

They said that as Pakistan has raised 'Baandh' on their sides, BSF was forced to elevate the position of the pickets to maintain vigil on each and every movement across the border.

''As harsh winters are predicted this time, militants may make all efforts to cross over to this side of the border, following which hi-tech night vision devices (NVDs) including Thermal Imagers have been installed along the border, which will keep surveillance on suspicious movements especially on foggy nights,'' sources added.

They said, ''As per intelligence inputs, 50-60 militants are waiting across the international border to cross over to this side in coming winters following which, security infrastructure has been strengthened.'' They, however, added that besides infiltration, vigil is also being maintained on narco-smugglers, who are indulging in cross border smuggling.

So far, 37 infiltration attempts have been made from across the border till October this year, which were successfully foiled.
