PNS | Jeypore/ Parlakhemundi
All the Government and private buses plying from Jeypore in Koraput district to different places of Malkangiri district remained off the roads for the fourth day on Sunday to avoid any untoward incident due to observation of PLGA Week by the Maoists.
The passengers including the Government and other staff are stranded here and the staff attendance in different block offices and district offices reported less since Thursday. Though the Maoists neither blocked the roads nor called for any bandh in the district during the week, but the OSRTC and private bus service remained off the roads due to fear.
The Maoists, who had blocked the roads by felling trees and digging big holes last week were cleared by the police and BSF jawans and the route to Parvatipuram in AP, Rayagada and Laxmipur from Narayanpatna was normal and some vehicles are plying on these route, sources said. The buses plying to Parlakhemundi from Jeypore and Phulbani from Koraput via Rayagada are changed their route and are plying via Saluru in Andhra Pradesh and Bhawanipatna respectively from to day. On the other hand the Maoists blocked the road at Kumbhariput between Narayanapatna and Damonjodi, last night, sources reveal.
Due to disruption of communication in the area, some marriage ceremonies were cancelled and some Commander jeeps plying in the route are charging very high fares from Malkangiri to Jeypore.Schools and panchayat offices are also closed for last three days in all the Maoist-prone boarder areas of Malkangiri district, sources said.
"We will not take any risk during the PLGA week and all private buses from Jeypore to Malkangiri District shall be off road till December 8 to avoid any untoward incident" said, general secretary of the private bus owners association here Durga Prasad Tripathy.
Meanwhile in Gajapati district, buses were off the roads though the markets are open. The security forces are maintaining vigil and till now the week has made no impact in the district. However, till now there are no reports of any untoward incident from the insurgency-affected regions though panic prevails.
