28 September 2010

The surface-to-surface Prithvi-II ballistic missile has failed to take off during the user trial conducted from the integrated test range in Chandipur in Orissa, India.
The single stage liquid-propelled missile did not launch as the launchpad was enveloped in smoke, the Defence Research and Development Organisation said.
The test was conducted by Strategic Forces Command and no information has been disclosed on the cause of the failure.
The 4.6t missile is equipped with an advanced inertial navigation system and is designed to deceive anti-ballistic missiles, according to the Indian Express.
The missile was tested successfully on 18 June 2010.
