BSF teams up with Bangla Rif

To counter the spate of deaths at border areas, the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) have decided to implement a scheme - Joint Border Management (JBM).
The BDR authorities felt that the "killings of innocent and unarmed Bangladeshi nationals are done by the BSF in an organised manner". The BSF authorities, however, stuck to their point that deaths within the Indian territory took place as the Bangladeshi nationals illegally infiltrated and often attacked their jawans when challenged.
"The major point we discussed at the meeting is the death of illegal migrants from Bangladesh. The BSF jawans do not kill or shoot people with intention. But they have to fire at the infiltrators in self defence. So, we have proposed to begin a JBM programme, under which there will be patrolling on both sides of the border. We have asked the BDR authorities to restrict their civilians from infiltrating into the Indian side," said Raman Srivastava, Director General, BSF.
"We have asked the BDR to issue a prohibitory order at both sides of the border to restrict the Bangladeshi national from approaching the border at night. We have also given lists of the vulnerable patches where patrolling is compulsory," added Srivastava.
