It was a moment to be clicked and captured by the BSF jawans, their families and kids when off-spinner Harbhajan Singh reached the BSF Punjab Frontier Headquarters for an award function here this evening. Bhajji was felicitated by BSF Punjab Frontier Inspector-General Himmat Singh during a simple felicitation ceremony.
The ceremonial BSF band accorded a warm welcome to Bhajji from the entrance of the BSF Headquarters on the GT Road to the venue inside the campus. Bhajji came in a special flower-decked open jeep in the BSF campus.
Addressing a jam-packed open-air movie theatre on the BSF campus, Bhajji said in context with the semifinal match between India and Pakistan held at Mohali, “The Indo-Pak match was just a game and we get further chances to play. But there is no second chance in wars between India and Pakistan. Soldiers never get a chance again, they have to do or die,” he said, adding that everybody must have enjoyed the semifinal match.
Bhajji saluted the brave soldiers for their round-the-clock service guarding the borders and said, “My salute to brave soldiers and their mothers who send their sons to the borders and for wars. Soldiers are the real heroes who need to be appreciated and not me,” he said regarding the cheering applause from the BSF jawans.
IG Himmat Singh lauded the victory of the Team India and especially Bhajji and said, “Bhajji led the team to victory with ‘doosra’ but we want that this ‘doosra’ (read second) should continue with third, fourth and many such victories in future.” Meanwhile, the local Surjit Hockey Society, too, has decided to honour Bhajji. Secretary of the society Iqbal Singh Sandhu said the society would honour Bhajji as this would motivate the budding hockey players to perform even better.
