Though security has been beefed up across Jammu and Kashmir in the run-up to Republic Day, a group of militants managed to cut through the border fence at Abdullian in Jammu’s RS Pura sector. Border Security Force (BSF) sources said the high-voltage electric wire (Cobra Wire) was found cut at several places on Friday. The deputy inspector general of BSF, J.B. Sangwan, said the infiltrators took advantage of dense fog in the area.

Border Security Force (BSF) sources said the high-voltage electric wire (Cobra Wire) was found cut at several places on Friday. The deputy inspector general of BSF, J.B. Sangwan, said the infiltrators took advantage of dense fog in the area.
“Security in Jammu has been put on a high alert,” Inspector General of Police Ashok Gupta said. “Police are conducting thorough searches of vehicles, even during the night.”
In South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, around 60 km south of Srinagar, at least two alleged Lashkar-e-Tayebba (LeT) militants gave security forces the slip by breaking through a cordon after a gun battle that lasted more than six hours.
The encounter started after the militants, holed up at a house at Qaimoh village in Kulgam from Friday evening, allegedly fired at army and police personnel.
Security forces decided to storm the house around daybreak on Saturday. “We had information that two militants were hiding in the house of Abdul Majeed Sheikh,” said Kulgam’s Superintendent of Police Keshav Ram Chaurasia. But the house was empty when the security men barged in.
“It seems the militants escaped taking advantage of the darkness,” Chaurasia said.
