DINAJPUR, Jan 28 (BSS): Special director general(DG) of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) Pronoy Shahi said that members of the Indian paramilitary force had been directed to stop killing on Bangladesh-India border.
"We would solve the border problems through discussions by maintaining friendly relations with each other," he told journalists after a high-level meeting between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the BSF at Hili Land Port Friday.
Mr Shahi, who led the 11-member Indian side at the talks, said the unsettledfrontier problems between Bangladesh and India will be solved keeping in mind that no misunderstanding is created in any situation.
"During the meeting, we have agreed to carry out joint patrol along the border to check smuggling and drug trafficking," Mr Shahi said.
BGB Sector Commander Col Saleh Ahmed, who headed the 11-member Bangladesh side at the meeting, said a number of issues including stopping killing of innocent people, smuggling and drug trafficking came up for discussion.
"The two sides agreed to resolve the border problems through discussion at state level," he added.
The BSF Special DG was assisted by Inspector General of BSF MF Khan, Maldah Sector DIG Amor Jeet Singh and Commander of 57 BSF Raj Kumar, while Commander of 40 Fulbari BGB Lt Col Amirul Islam Sikdar, Maj Qureishi, Maj Zakir and Maj Hasan assisted Dinajpur Sector Commander of BGB Col Saleh Ahmed.
Earlier, a 10-member smartly turned-out contingent of BGB presented a guard of honour to the BSF Special DG on Bangladesh border.
