AMRITSAR/GURDASPUR (PUNJAB): Various functions were held in the city to hoist national flag on the occasion of 62nd Republic Day.
In a district-level function held at Guru Nanak Stadium, Cabinet minister Adesh Partap Singh Kairon unfurled the national flag. He also distributed tricycles and sewing machines to the needy persons at the end of the function.
At Indo-Pak international border at Attari, the Border Security Force officials shared the celebrations of Republic Day with Pakistani Rangers by giving them sweets, the gesture was also reciprocated from the Pak side.
At Guru Nanak Dev University vice-chancellor AS Brar unfurled the national flag.
Meanwhile, addressing R-Day parade at Gurdaspur rural development and panchayat minister Ranjit Singh Brahmpura said while more than 5,000 acres of encroached panchayat land has been retrieved from encroachers, the revenue from panchayat land coming to government coffers has increased from Rs 80 crore to Rs 18,076 crore annually.
